![]() I’m going to enjoy sipping through this one. Adding water to the Rare Breed 116.8 Proof pulls out some light biscuity notes on the aroma and a touch of butterscotch on the palate while enhancing the oak across it all. The palate is fruity sweet and oak heavy and the finish is just plain pleasant. ![]() The aroma begins oaky and sweet and gains nutty notes as it opens. It helps even out the oak and brings a nice balance to the bourbon. I’m not used to getting this much fruit in a Wild Turkey, but it seems to be really jumping up and down through the senses here. Oaky dry and sweet with an interesting fruitiness. Good sense of balance, med-full body and oily feel that fades out dry. Long -> Sweet dark fruit, oak, cocoa and spice. Oaky, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, fruit (dried dark and orchard), spice and some nuts and chalk. Vanilla, oak, dark fruit, brownies, nutmeg spice, nuts and light herbal, chalk and caramel notes. Rare Breed 116.8 Proof Review: Details and Tasting Notes Anyways, enough asking for what’s not going to happen, time to get on to the bourbon review. There was something about looking at a bottle on the shelf, seeing the code and knowing how long its been there that was fun. I like the new bottle, the new label and the overall new design esthetic that’s happening here with the good ol’ WTRB, but I gotta say, I miss the codes of old. Happy because it tells me that Wild Turkey is still strolling along putting out great Rare Breed releases despite no longer giving them a release code as they have in years past. Looking at the laser code on the side of this bottle tells me this Rare Breed 116.8 Proof is a 2018 release and that makes me happy.
